A Thing I Just Realized

When I left Boston, I thought that I thought of all the things that I was leaving and that I would miss out on while I was here, but all of a sudden, I realized I forgot one:  I can no longer easily go to Europe.

I have never been to Europe, and I never had any concrete plans to go there, but I took it for granted that Europe was so close and so accessible to New England.  I could have easily hopped on a plane to Iceland (as it seems everyone does, these days) and done my own tour of the Great World, but I never did.

Sure, I'm a bit closer to Asia at present, but between my work schedule and my fear of going to a place where I don't even know a tiny bit of the language, I doubt I'll be taking any holidays in Vietnam or Japan this year.

Upon my return to Boston (which is going to happen in fewer than 50 weeks), I am going to make concrete plans to go to Europe.  I finally have a passport and I can stock up on all my vaccinations (free of charge--this place does have its perks) on base before I leave here.  Then, it's off to the British Isles, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Greece!

Or, at the very least, Iceland.

  1. Um, you don't need to be vaccinated to go to Europe :) And yeah, what is with everyone going to Iceland? It was sort of exotic when I went the first time, but now it seems like everyone wants to go. Sigh. I can guarantee my way of seeing Iceland was better than everyone else's, though :)

But I like this! Europe is awesome! Let's coordinate our future travel plans. I'll never have time off until I get fired, but I'll work hard to get fired (once I am officially working), okay???

  2. I'm excited for your plan to go to my favorite land! I've not yet seen Greece, but I have been to all the other countries on your list (and lived in a couple) and I can say it absolutely changes you! Climb stairs to the tops of churches and cathedrals for amazing views of the cities, eat churros y chocolate for breakfast, rent a paddle boat (with a friend or 3) to lazily drink in views from the river, and marvel at the art that drips from every corner! Be sure to eat plenty of Chocolate, Raclette, and Fondue in Switzerland ;)

Careful though...I'm now addicted, and consequently hate my wallet for what it lacks.
