A little while ago I made a list of things that irk me to no end. I was surprised that I could only think of eight things, and knew I was forgetting something (another thing that annoys me--knowing I'm forgetting something). And I remembered what it was:
I can't stand when there's a musical performance of some sort and the audience decides that it can't wait until after the song to start clapping. All of a sudden, the tempo of the song starts to get a little "poppy" and the audience starts clapping along "with the beat." I use the quotations there because not everyone's internal metronomes are as they should be.
Get one of these, people.
Anyway, this concerns me, because I'm going to be part of this amazing acapella piece that my friend arranged for our talent show, and I feel like people are going to start clapping during the song, miss all of the amazing musical nuances and vocal percussiveness, and just be distracting and stupid. Furthermore, things like this get recorded, and nobody wants to listen to a recording of people clapping. So listen up, talent show audience members, I'm warning you now. Don't even think about clapping in the middle of the song. Your percussion will have repercussions (see what I did there?).
